3.3Kv Switchgear and Variable Speed Drives in Y2 MCC awaiting final commissioning
In a collaborative effort between Electrical Systems, Engineering Design Solutions, Ensight and the Roaster plant, RBM will be installing “First for RBM” medium-voltage variable speed drive (VSD) control systems onsite. This project was triggered due to the end-of-life state of the 3.3kV switchgear on the Y1 and Y2 electrical boards. The factory that produced this particular switchgear closed more than 18 years ago. The electrical equipment is obsolete and presents a real-time risk to our electrical personnel due to five high-energy failure incidents that occurred over the last eight years. The project replacement value equates to R26.7 million and will be handled in two phases.
