Ensight Richards Bay recently held their team building event at the Richards Bay Sports Arena. Action Cricket was the battlefield of choice to better relationships. The two teams; King’s Peaks and Hard Rock, gave titillating performances and no doubt lived up to their T-shirt references.
Action cricket differs from conventional cricket in being fast paced and having different scoring rules. Areas of the net surrounding the field contribute to different points, whilst a batsman needs to run to acquire these points. Negative scoring also applies for “out”, “wide” and “no ball” umpire decisions. Should a batsman not run after three consecutive balls, the batsman is considered “out” and loses points.
Ian, the captain of Hard Rock won the toss and elected to field, sending Ndumiso’s team into the gauntlet. Ndumiso and Nikhil opened the batting with a partnership of 21, followed by Mbongeni and Theolan who added 7 more runs to the total. The pick of King’s Peaks batsmen were Awelani and Ivanya, whose partnership contributed 40 more runs to the total. Irene and Mbongeni ended the innings, with King’s Peaks totalling 88 runs after 16 overs. Hard Rock did well to keep their field tight with Danie and Mike giving good bowling figures of 4/15 and 2/1 respectively.
With Mbongeni’s bludgeoned toe and Irene missing in action for the first two overs, King’s Peaks fought hard to keep the runs from piling on, but Nivaar and Verena blasted through the first 4 overs, culminating in the highest partnership of the match with 41 runs between them. Hard Rock continued to rack up the runs with Mike and Zanele adding another 35 to the total. Zanele’s victory dance after smashing one of the games’ most magnificent sixes, had the crowd cheering in awe. Bheki brought his Golf Handicap status to the crease, showing his prowess by batting both left handed and right handed, scoring -8 runs. This, coupled with Awelani’s great bowling figures of 5/14 were King’s Peaks only hope to a victory. Ian, an ecstatic captain, withheld his truest potential, which nevertheless saw Hard Rock cruise to victory and end the match with a total of 123 runs.
The team felt energized with spirits and morale amongst the them soaring. They were treated to a scrumptious meal of Bunny Chows and Pizza. The guys and girls bonded over a few pool games whilst recovering from all the excitement. Richards Bay Sports Arena, had a wonderful surprise, by awarding the best performances of the match with prizes. Verena & Nivaar, Awelani and Ivanya picked up prizes for the best partnership, bowler and batsmen respectively. Howzit!
